Weekend Stuff

This weekend wasn't too eventful. Friday we went to the Syracuse Pumpkin Walk. We have done this every year going on our fifth year. The kids love seeing all the intricately carved pumpkins. Sarah insisted on walking which takes forever. After a while, though, we ended up carrying her much to her disapproval we just didn't have that kind of wait time for her. After the walk we came home and had movie night with popcorn and watched the movie Witches. It was an interesting older movie. It made Daniel a little afraid to sleep downstairs in the basement, but he finally got tired enough it didn't matter where he fell asleep as long as he had his blankee. Saturday we did our chores and headed over to Barnes and Noble bookstore. Now my idea of fun is definitely not taking four kids to a bookstore, but I had a coupon for a free kids hot chocolate and cookie. Of course FREE is FREE so we HAD to go. We looked around for a bit because I needed a new book. Aaron brought me over to the Uncle John's Bathroom Reader section--they're a whole bunch of books filled with different inconsequential facts that the nerd in me finds interesting. Anyway, we were there looking when Aaron happened to turn around to see right behind us not more than two feet away was the Gay and Lesbian section with lots of um...graphic pictures (involving lots of skin) on the covers of the books. When Aaron saw that and then saw Josh staring at the covers he quickly took the kids over to the children's section for something a little more age appropriate for a 1, 4, 6, and 8 year old. I hope they didn't leave an imprint in Josh's brain!! After that we headed over to the cafe. We ordered the cookies and hot chocolates for the kids. I knew Daniel wouldn't be able to the cookie, but I was hoping he would at least be able to have the hot chocolate. I was wrong. They squirted the chocolate syrup in the bottom of the cup and filled the rest of it up with milk. Daniel wasn't too happy not being able to have his hot chocolate, but he got a Capri Sun instead with some fruit snacks--almost as good right?!? Aaron, being the considerate guy he is, took care of Daniel's cookie and hot chocolate ;). While we were sitting waiting for the kids to eat their stuff Josh was looking at his cup and read the words Cafe on it. He read it as saying caffeine--according to Josh the words caffeine and coffee are interchangeable. He then loudly announced, "Hey Mom, people who drink lots of caffeine smoke a lot too. That's not healthy!" Now keep in mind we are in a quiet bookstore with an open cafe. I told him that's not always the case and we left shortly after. Why couldn't kids come with a mute button or at least a volume control?

Today was the primary program in church. It was so weird to have only Sarah sitting on the bench with us. The bench seemed so empty. She, however, made up for the lack of children with her need for freedom. She just wants to wander the aisle and gets mad and screams when you don't let her out of the bench. In between wrestling with Sarah we got to hear each of the boys give their parts and sing. They did great. Daniel let everyone know before we came to earth we lived in heaven with President Monson. Josh is trying to live his life to return to his Heavenly Father by having Family Home Evening and eating healthy food. Matthew just let everyone know he has a happy family. The entire program was set up by asking each child 3-4 questions and taking the best answers that they gave. So each of the parts were actually said by that child in reference to the questions. It was a wonderful program. I can't wait until next year's program. Matthew's and Daniel's teachers got their workouts for the meeting, but we enjoyed the program.
